    The professor

    Prof Dr. Constantinos E. Vorgias was born 1957 in Piraeus and is a father of Sophia-Maria-Ingrid and Evangelos-Alexandros-Jürgern with his wife Dr. Silke-Nicole Weissker-Vorgias and he speaks English and German.

    He completed his basic and high school education in Piraeus and he received his bachelor degree in Biology from University of Athens School of Natural and Mathematic Sciences (1980). Post-graduate fellowship in the Department of Biology, Nuclear Research Centre, Demokritos, Athens (5.1980-1.1981). PhD fellowship from Max-Planck Institute for Cell Biology, Heidelberg, Germany Prof. Dr. Peter Traub. 2.1981–11.1984. PhD thesis from Heidelberg University School of Natural and Mathetmatical Sciences (2.1985). Visiting scientist at EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany, Department of Structural Biology, Prof. Dr. D. Tsernoglou (11.1984-5.1985). Millitary service in the Greek army Lieutenant in reserve (6.1985– 10.1987). Senior scientist fellowship of the Biotechnology Program of European Community (1.1988–3.1989). Staff Scientist at EMBL Outstation, Hamburg (3.1989–9.1996). Elected as Assist. Professor in Biochemistry at the Biology Department of Athens University (1995) and tenure track (1999). Elected as Associated Professor in Biochemistry (2002) and Full Professor of Biochemistry (2005).

    He has attended several specialization courses. HPLC practical work from Waters Company, course in Monoclonal Antibodies Techniques at University of London, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Wolfson Medical Centre, London, UK. Course on Nucleic Acid Synthesis and Gene Assembly. International Center For Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Dehli, India; seminar and practical course for radioactivity security according the European Community and German law. WIT, University of Tübigen, Germany. During his studies he received numerous fellowships form the Greek Foundation for Atomic Energy; Max-Planck Foundation; EU, EMBO, DAAD and IKYDA.

    He is active member of the Greek Biological Society (since 1981); European Chitin Society (since 1993), Hellenic Crystallographic Society (since 2001), member of the ALUMNI Heidelberg in Greece, (since 2002). He organized or is member of organization committee of more than 20 national and international symposia and is invited speakers in more than 30 times in national and international scientific events. Since 2011 he organized a summer school with the title “From gene to the protein and more…”. His research has been granted over 20 time at National (GSRT) and European level (EU, DAAD, IKYDA, NATO).

    He has been member of the national examination committee of the Ministry of Education, member of the National Research Committee. He has strong co-operations with various European and Mediterranean countries and visiting Professor in several European Universities.
